AI search optimization in San Diego: be the business ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI recommend
AI search optimization, also sold as AIO, GEO or AEO, is the work of making a San Diego business the source that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode quote when a customer asks for a recommendation or a price. Velour Web builds it into every website we make, retrofits it onto fast existing sites for $1,500 to $4,000, and runs it monthly on growth plans from $500, with a citation report every month. It starts with a fixed-price AI visibility audit that shows, engine by engine, whether you are named today and what would change it. We only sell it where our competition check says it can work.
What AI search optimization is, in plain terms
When someone in Escondido asks ChatGPT for a plumber, or Googles 'how much does a kitchen remodel cost in San Diego' and reads the AI Overview, the answer is assembled from web pages, Business Profiles, reviews and directories that the engine can read and trusts. AI search optimization is making your business one of those sources: pages that answer the question in the first hundred words with a number, structured data that names the business and links it to its reviews, crawlers allowed, fast pages, and mentions on the sites AI reads first. Across the 2026 citation studies, that is what gets a business named.
It is not a separate thing from SEO. Every engine retrieves from a search index first, so ranking is still the input. It is SEO with a new definition of winning: named in the answer, whether or not anyone clicks. Over half of desktop Google searches ended without a click in late 2025, so that definition is the one that matters.
What we do
The work has seven parts, and every one is checkable. We do all seven on a new build, the ones your existing site is missing on a retrofit, and the ongoing ones monthly.
- Answer-first rewrite of the pages that matter: the answer, the price and the number in the first 100 words, in definitive language, with question headings and an FAQ.
- Entity markup: LocalBusiness or your trade's subtype with sameAs links to your Business Profile, Yelp, LinkedIn and directories; Service on every service page; FAQPage; Article with a named author on guides; Offer where prices exist.
- Crawler access: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and Bingbot allowed; llms.txt published; sitemaps submitted to Google and Bing.
- Speed: under one second, server-rendered, so live-reading engines read the whole page. If the site cannot get there, we say so and quote the rebuild.
- Business Profile alignment: identical name, phone, hours, categories and services on the site, the profile and the three directories that matter for your trade.
- Third-party presence: a review routine that asks for the specific version, the owner's LinkedIn posting real work, one useful Reddit answer a month where a thread asks. Presence, not spam.
- Measurement: a fixed panel of 30 prompts run monthly in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode, logged with who is named and cited, reported with branded searches and leads on one page.
What it costs
Built into a new site, it adds nothing: a $3,000 to $8,000 business website from us already has all seven parts, because it is how we write and structure every page. Retrofitting a fast existing site runs $1,500 to $4,000 for the structure, schema, crawler access and a rewrite of the top ten pages. Ongoing work is the growth plans on our pricing page: $500, $1,000 or $2,000 a month depending on the competition check, adding new answer-first pages every month and the citation report. The AI visibility audit is a fixed price and is credited toward any of the above.
The math we check first: one lead is worth your average job times your gross margin times your close rate. Divide the monthly plan by that number and you have the calls a month that break even. We aim for three times that, and if your category cannot produce it we tell you before the proposal.
Where it works and where it does not
Local questions are where AI search is thinnest and most winnable: 'best plumber in Escondido' has a handful of pages that answer plainly, and Google is extending AI Overviews to local and transactional searches through 2026 and 2027. Our 76-site audit of San Diego business homepages found only 9% with FAQ schema, 28% with a price on the page and 11% with llms.txt, so the first business in most trades to do this has no local competition for it.
It does not work where the answer is owned by national aggregators and 500-review businesses: personal injury and immigration law, plastic surgery, med spas next to La Jolla, real estate agents, insurance, movers. Our competition check rates those red, we build the site on care only, and we say why.
San Diego County and Los Angeles, in person
We are based in North San Diego County and in Los Angeles, half of every month in each, and meet clients in person in both. The pages, the schema and the crawler work are the same anywhere; the third-party work, reviews, directories, local threads, is local, and we know which directories matter for which trade in which city.

Local SEO Websites
A local SEO website is a site structured to rank for the searches your customers actually type: one page for each service you offer and one for each city you serve, with FAQ and local-business schema, cost guides and a linked Google Business Profile. For San Diego service businesses it costs $8,000 to $25,000 and up depending on how many pages are needed, and takes 4 to 8 weeks.

FAQ
Common questions
What is the difference between AI search optimization, GEO, AEO and AIO?
Names for the same work. GEO usually means citations in chat engines like ChatGPT; AEO usually means Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode; AIO and LLMO are umbrella terms. We say AI search optimization and do all of it as one job.
How long until AI engines recommend my business?
Pages are indexed in one to four weeks. Citations follow rankings and third-party mentions, usually one to three months after both are in place for a green category in a San Diego suburb. Yellow categories in a city core take nine to twelve months.
Do you guarantee I will show up in ChatGPT?
No. Nobody honest does. We guarantee the seven parts above, the monthly citation report, and on green plans a billing pause if the report shows no measurable leads by month six.
Can you do AI search optimization on my WordPress site?
If it loads in under two seconds and you control the templates, yes, as a retrofit. If it loads in five seconds with twenty plugins, the speed and crawl problems will not be fixed by adding schema, and we quote the rebuild instead.
What is in the AI visibility audit?
Thirty prompts run in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode for your category and cities, logged with who is named and cited; a check of your site against the seven parts; your competition rating; and a written list of fixes in order of impact. Fixed price, credited toward any work.
Is AI search optimization worth it for a small local business?
For a green or yellow category, yes, and more than for a national brand, because the local questions are where the competition is thinnest and where Google is extending AI answers next. For a red category we will tell you to spend the money elsewhere.
